How to package an ECU safely for shipping
Avoiding the damage that happens between the workshop and the bench.

A proportion of the damage seen on incoming modules happened in transit, not on the vehicle. Packaging is worth a few minutes.
Before it goes in the box
- Photograph the unit, including the label and connectors, before packing
- Note the reference number on the paperwork inside the box
- Do not attempt to open or clean the module first
- Leave connector pins as they are - do not straighten or cut anything
Packing
- Antistatic bag first, wherever possible
- Bubble wrap on all six sides, with the connector end padded most
- A rigid outer box with at least 3-5 cm of fill on every side
- No loose screws or hardware in the box
- Contact details and reference both inside and on the outside
